Course Description:

No matter what stage your food business is in — whether it be bootstrapping or funded, pre-revenue or profitable — it is important to understand your numbers so you can make informed decisions about your business. This interactive session will provide a brief overview of financial statements. We will also discuss tools you can use to help maintain financial records easier and stay tax compliant, including accounting software, billing and bill pay options.

Instructors:

James Wilkinson is the Firm’s office managing partner in Providence, Rhode Island. He has more than 32 years of public accounting experience providing audit, accounting services, and technology consulting to a wide array of clients and industries. Mr. Wilkinson is passionate about leveraging technologies to solve business challenges and provides outsourced accounting services for growing, entrepreneurial businesses from start-ups to well-established operations. He strives to implement technologies to empower people and transform complex systems and business processes into efficient and productive suites of integrated applications.

Kristin Barishian is a Director in Boston, MA and Providence. She has 15 years of experience in accounting focusing on financial statement audits of public and private companies, ranging from pre-revenue start-ups to publicly traded companies. Her experience also includes providing outsourced accounting consulting services to companies. Prior to Marcum, Kristin was an accounting manager. In her free time, Kristin enjoys mentoring start-ups and entrepreneurs on their journey to success.

Joshua Bloom is an assurance supervisor in the Providence office with almost 10 years of public accounting experience. His experience includes providing accounting and auditing services for healthcare organizations, including skilled nursing facilities and assisted living facilities, real estate companies, municipalities, quasi-governmental agencies, not-for-profit organizations, emerging businesses and start-ups, and employee benefit plans. As part of the audit process, Mr. Bloom is looking for opportunities to improve processes and internal controls.
