Schoolyard Market | 2020

Wednesdays 4pm to 7pm, July 1 – October 14th
691 Main St, Warren, RI

The Schoolyard Farmers-Makers market engages visitors as a part of our nonprofit mission, helping locally-based food and beverage businesses start up, scale and thrive. Market-goers will be delighted to find a stellar cast of vendors selling the newest and freshest offerings from New England-based farms, food and beverage producers, bakers, and more. This year, the Schoolyard Market is just one element of “What’s Local Wednesdays” a weekly celebration of local food at Hope & Main that also includes live music, grocery and meal pickups, and food trucks!

Thank You to our 2020 Market Sponsor!

“Food is a relationship that goes so much deeper than reading a label in a supermarket. We want to share the fascinating story of the origin and production of the food we eat everyday.”

–Lisa Raiola, Founder & President of Hope & Main

More About Our Markets

NEW SAFETY PRECAUTIONS DURING COVID-19

We can’t wait to see you all, and are excited to provide safe access to fresh local food! Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, we are taking the following safety precautions to protect our market vendors, guests, and staff. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns!

  • If you are sick or a member of high-risk group, stay home and take care of yourself.
  • Face coverings, such as a cloth mask or bandana, are required at all times.
  • Send only one household member to shop, if possible.
  • Practice physical distancing of six feet at all times. Avoid physical contact, such as shaking hands.
  • If you must sneeze or cough, use a tissue or your elbow.
  • Shop as quickly as possible, ideally within 30 minutes. Avoid peak times. Take prepared food items to go to eat off site.
  • Don’t touch. Let our farmers and vendors serve you, and don’t handle items you’re not prepared to buy. Wash your produce thoroughly when you get home.
  • Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly for 20 seconds. We offer a handwashing station near the entrance/exit to our farmers market. If you are not able to wash your hands, use an alcohol-based sanitizer.
  • Please follow the one-way traffic flow inside the market.
  • Credit cards or contactless payments such as Apple Pay and tap-to-pay credit cards are preferred. If a cash payment must be used, please give exact change when possible.

SNAP, WIC & SENIOR CITIZEN VOUCHERS WELCOME

Over half of all farmers markets in our state provide a Bonus Bucks match for EBT dollars — and we’re one of them! Too many of our neighbors are facing food insecurity. In order to make Schoolyard Market more accessible to everyone we have joined forces with Farm Fresh Rhode Island to offer the Bonus Bucks program. Shoppers can use their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for groceries at participating farmers markets, and in turn, the markets match 100% of those funds to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables. That’s double the SNAP dollars to spend at the farmers market! Farm Fresh RI’s Bonus Bucks don’t expire and can be used at all participating farmers markets, but we hope you’ll spend most of them here!

More good news! Most Schoolyard Market farmers accept WIC and Senior Citizen coupons, too.

Visit the Hope & Main market stall to learn more about all of these programs, and to get your Bonus Bucks tokens.

Live Music Every Market!

Music and food go together so well that we thought we ought to invite local musicians to play for you all summer long. Each Sunday you’ll be able to enjoy the work and talent of a variety of musicians ranging from Latin Jazz to Bluegrass. Sing-alongs, clapping, snapping, foot stomping and improvisational dancing are all totally fine with us. We’re all here to have fun!

Tips are appreciated!

Want to play for us sometime? Great! Drop us a line: market@makefoodyourbusiness.org

Polite, properly leashed pets welcome!

Sometimes your favorite family members aren’t always people so we want you to know — we can relate. If your beloved pet is well-behaved, leashed and supervised by a responsible adult then they’re welcome to shop, too!

It’s important that we all contribute to a safe and happy environment for all. Please be aware of how your pet’s presence and/or actions may affect other shoppers, and join us in assuring that everyone feels comfortable.

Disruptive, ill-behaved pets will not be allowed. Irresponsible pet owners will be asked to leave and will not be allowed to return with your pet.

** No live animals are allowed in the building. Please visit the Hope & Main stall with questions or concerns. **

We’re a Compost Depot! Food waste collected onsite is later processed into nutrient rich soil amendment.

Give FEEDback!

Hope & Main is home to more than 50 small, independent food-related companies looking to develop and expand their businesses. We help “incubate” these companies, offering commercial kitchen spaces and business development resources and connect them with customers and retailers. Obtaining feedback from customers is helping our Members fine-tune their branding and products.
