Nourish Our Neighbors

Feeding local families in a time of need

It takes a community to feed a community.

We launched the Nourish Our Neighbors program in response to the food access crisis brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.  With support from hundreds of donors, dozens of volunteers and highly committed community partners we are working to ensure that local food insecure families and other vulnerable individuals can access wholesome, prepared meals at a time when nutritious food is critical to maintain good health.

FREE MEALS AVAILABLE FOR OUR NEIGHBORS IN NEED

When Rhode Island’s schools closed in March, we worked with the Bristol Warren Regional School District to serve as a pick up point for “grab & go” breakfast and lunch for East Bay students. We’ve met hundreds of families and good neighbors and distributed thousands of meals. Recognizing the need for the entire community to eat well, we launched a fundraiser in early April that enabled us to provide even more meals, supplementing the School District’s provisions with family-sized and individual meals made by our member companies.

We have also teamed up with the three local Senior Centers in (Bristol, Warren and Barrington) to bring nutritious meals to local Seniors that are homebound.

Other partners include the Women’s Resource Center, to whom we provide prepared meals for women and children in transitional housing due to threat of domestic violence, as well as with L.I.F.E. Inc. to bring meals to differently-abled adults in group home settings.

Every meal reaches a grateful neighbor in the East Bay!

We needed your support to sustain this program – and you delivered!

THANK YOU!

On June 18, 2020 distribution of breakfasts and lunches through the local school department paused until school is back in session. However, with help from the Rhode Island Department of Education, we will continue distribution of school meals from our facility — twice per week — throughout the 10 week summer “break”, along with the supplemental prepared meals. We will also continue prepared meal distribution to East Bay Senior Centers and other agency partners.

You’re the best! More than 140 generous donors donated $71, 542 so we can ensure that the Nourish Our Neighbors program can sustain through Labor Day!

PROGRAM IMPACT, SO FAR

Thanks to our donors, volunteers and community partners, more than 15,000 meals have been distributed to East Bay community members since April 2020.

Each week we distribute:

  • 950 Prepared meals for food insecure East Bay families
  • 240 Prepared meals for homebound Senior citziens
  • 60 Prepared meals for clients of the Women’s Resource Center & L.I.F.E., Inc.
